The domination of men in Africa in most sectors of the economy is very common. While the reason for this trend is debatable in some circles, it would be totally wrong to say women have not been able to carve a place for themselves. In the world of technology, there exist few African Women in Technology taking the continent by storm. These women and their love for technology are greatly admired both locally and internationally. Today we take time out to give reference to these women in technology that are making the African continent proud. 

1. Judith Owigar, Kenya She’s a name to be reckoned with in Kenyan tech industry. She’s the founder of JuaKali, founded in 2012, which is an online mobile directory for blue-collar professionals in Kenya. JuaKali creates a platform for workers to design an online profile to showcase their expertise. This way, clients can find these workers easily for their companies. 

2. Barbara Mallison, South Africa She’s the co-founder of Obami which was developed in 2007. This technology is used by organisations and schools in Africa, America, and Europe. The technology allows people in the educational sphere to share resources in a bid to improve educational performance. 

3. Rebecca Enonchong, Cameroon This Cameroonian female tech genius is the founder of AppsTech. She developed the technology in 1999 and it has grown in use to over 40 countries across 3 continents. The technology provides enterprises application solutions to users. 

4. Anne Amuzu, Ghana She’s the co-founder of Nandimobile which has more than 20 corporate clients in Ghana alone. The technology was developed in 2010 and assists companies in delivering information services and customer support to clients through SMS. 

5. Marieme Jemme, Senegal She’s the co-founder of Africa Gathering. She is known globally as a key technologist in Africa. According to a report on CNN, she was regarded to as one of the leading women “at the forefront of the technology revolution that is slowly transforming Africa”. Africa Gathering serves as a global platform that brings the best entrepreneurial minds in Africa to interact and pave the way for the continent’s development. 

6. Divine Ndhlukula, Zimbabwe She’s the founder and Managing Director of SECURICO, which provides cutting edge electronic solutions and custom guard services in Zimbabwe. Her company is one of the largest security firms in Zimbabwe. 

7. Julia Rotich, Kenya She’s an informational technology professional and also the co-founder of Ushahidi. Ushahidi is open source software that operates by gathering crowd sourced geolocation, web reporting data, and mobile phones in correlating information and crisis reporting. World Economic Forum in 2011 named her the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year in Africa. 

8. Emma Kaye, South Africa Emma has had several businesses to her name. With her knowledge of marketing, business, and computer programming, it is not surprising why she has recorded several successes in her business. She co-founded Triggerfish Animation in 1996. She produced Takalani Sesame, which is the largest animation production in South Africa till date. She is currently working on new software projects. 

9. Clarisse Iribagize, Rwanda She is the founder of HeHe Ltd, a company founded in 2010. The company majors in the making of custom-built mobile applications for businesses. They also provide cloud services and 24/7 online and offline customer support. Some of her major clients include African telecommunication giant, MTN, Rwandan government agencies, and the Praekelt Foundation. ` 

10. Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho, Nigeria She’s the founder of Future Software Resources Ltd; a company founded in 2008. The company is majors in web design, online marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), IT consultancy services, among others. The company services large government agencies and businesses and also some 25 small Nigerian businesses.
