The Small Scale Farmers
Development Agency (SAFADA) says it will empower over
3,000 small scale farmers with irrigation farming, livestock
production, marketing and other agriculture related
business activities.
SAFADA Executive Director Boyd Moobwe said in a statement
to ZANIS in Lusaka today that this will be done under its
economic partnership agreement strategic approach.
Mr. Moobwe said his organization has been compelled to
come up with the initiative in order to mitigate the
uncertainties facing small scale farmers.
He stated that the current drought spell, inconsistent farm
input support system and lack of basic agriculture
information on investment opportunities has put farmers in
an awkward situation.
Mr. Moobwe expressed fear that lack of such interventions
will make farmers face problems as a result of the
disintegrating farming sector.
He has since appealed to farmers to register their points of
interest with his organization in order to benefit from the
initiative.
