A first year student of the Copperbelt University (CBU) was today suspected of having cholera whilst traveling to Lusaka.
A student only identified as Faith Kafuli, non-quota from group E was this
morning suspected of having cholera after she started vomiting on power tools bus.
And COBUSU vice president Patience Mukonko says Faith was taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital for treatment when she got sick on the bus.
Ms Mukonko has hwever confirmed that Faith is doing fine and has been discharged from the hospital as she was diagnosed Cholera negative.
“After speaking to her, she said she feels well and has been given some medication to take care of the vomiting. She will
resume her journey for Kabwe tomorrow morning. She also asked me to wish every student a happy new year,” said Ms Mukonko.
Meanwhile, the University of Zambia (UNZA) has been closed indefinitely owing to the cholera outbreak.
In a statement made available to WestMac Media, university Registrar Sitali Wamundila stated that UNZA would provide transport to all 10 provinces for those without means of getting home.
“Meanwhile, for those who may not have means for returning back to their homes, they are directed to get in touch with the Office of the Dean of Students for details on free transport that has been arranged to take students to all the 10 provincial headquarters. All students at both campuses are being directed to leave with immediate effect,” Mr Wamundila stated.
Mr Wamundila, however stated that business, for members of staff, would continue as usual.
“Meanwhile, all staff of the university are being guided to continue operating normally,” stated Mr Wamundila.
