Minister of Higher Education, Prof Nkandu Luo has commissioned a 1x3 classrooms built by Copperbelt University students at Ipusukilo Community School.
Prof Luo officially opened and handed over the classroom block to Ipusukilo Community School on Friday in the company of Kitwe district Commissioner.
The Minister said initiatives by students of this nature should be supported.
CBU students built the classroom block under the 'Piggy Bank Campaign'.
The construction of the classrooms block was among the most ambitious of the projects started by the student-run campaigns.
The Piggy Bank Campaign has been pooling funds for construction from the student populace as well as other well-wishers and philanthropists.
Meanwhile, Kitwe DC Binwell Mpundu said the initiative the students took was not just the building of a classroom block but it was more about the building of the students image who for many time times have made headlines for their famous Jambos (Riots).
The DC added that CBU students have demonstrated that they can and will supplement Govt efforts in providing
quality education especially to vulnerable communities like musonda compound.
Mr Mpundu also urged students to make headlines of positive development.
“These are the headlines you should be
making as intellectuals. We salute you indeed,” he said.
