NAREP leader urges youths to say no to violence, build genuine unity

By Staff Reporter, LUSAKA
National Restoration Party president Elias Chipimo Junior has urged youths to discard politics of the past; say no to violence and build genuine unity.

In a statement monitored by WM Media, Mr. Chipimo said there is no better time than now to do the right thing.

“My fellow Zambians, we come before you as three gallant young sons of the soil, each with our committed team of supporters. We come to you with a message of hope and a promise that if we work together, we can build the Zambia we all know we deserve,” he said.

He alleged that youths will only ever be taken seriously when Zambians choose to put their differences aside and work together to achieve a unity whose foundation was built by Zambia’s brave men and women in the past and whose future must be secured by brave young minds willing to commit themselves to a noble cause that is bigger than any one of them.

He added that for years, the young people of Zambia have clamoured for a style of politics that will desist from the mud-slinging and mindless violence that has characterized it.

Mr. Chipimo further alleged that pangas and tear gas may be designed to instill fear in political opponents but they also deny the country the right to hear different, better views and plans about the future and how the country could get there together, without insults, without injury, without loss of life.

He said as Alliance partners, they are determined to do what is in the best interest of their Parties and Zambia as a whole.

“We know what we want and we know what the nation needs. We know what is wrong, and rather than simply identify the problems, we have the solutions and are prepared to state them and pursue them with all our hearts,” Mr. Chipimo explained.

The NAREP president also stated that the time for excuses is long gone. Now is the time for action.

“Let us not let one day go by without re-committing ourselves to the cause of mother Zambia,” Mr. Chipimo said.

On Friday last week, youthful opposition leaders: NAREP leader Elias Chipimo, Democrat Front President Miles Sampa and Fourth Revolution leader Eric Chanda formed a pact dubbed 'Orange Alliance'.

The three parties have since resolved to contest the August 11 polls under the Orange Alliance.

Mr Chipimo will serve as Chairman and Eric Chanda has been appointed General Secretary and Spokesperson while Mr Sampa is the Alliance’s presidential candidate.
