The Copperbelt University (CBU) students says they have decided to go on class boycott effective Monday the 18th January, 2016 until their demands are met.
Students says it is extremely bad seeing their fellow students who are not accommodated on campus spend nights in the cold and rains.
Since last December, some off-campus accommodated students have been facing evictions by landlords of various boarding houses for failing to pay rentals owing to the unpaid allowances for accommodation.
Students have therefore, resorted to boycotting classes saying it is not worth going for classes on empty stomachs as it affects their concentration.
However, on Sunday midnight, Zambia police officers alias 'cousins' infested the university main campus to calm the tension after they were tipped that CBU students were likely to protest in the night.
The presence of police officers in campus worsened tension and subsequently resulted in a mutual usual fight of exchanging stones and tear gases with students.
And unknown number of students were arrested last night.
A check by WM Media at Riverside main campus around 01:00hrs found that students were 'unruly, hungry and angry'.
At press time, students disclosed that Government has delayed to pay them their dues; project, accommodation and meal allowances in full.
And in their submission of appeal to CBU management and other concerned stakeholders, unruly students indicated that their fellow students and Copperbelt University Student Union (COBUSU) leaders who were recently suspended by the office of Dean of Students should be reinstated and police officers be removed from the university premises.
