National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) on Thursday honored deserving pupils and workers from various institutions by giving them ‘awards’.
On behalf of NSTC Henry Musenge commended individuals who have made strides in pursuit of excellence in various areas of specialization in science and technology.
Speaking at the award giving ceremony which took place at Ndola’s Hazeview Lodge, Dr. Musenge who is NSTC Chairperson said it was important to award deserving stakeholders for their contribution to the advancement of science and technology in Zambia.
He said Journalists also play a significant role in encouraging excellence in science reporting and help to bring science, technology and innovation matters to the fore.
A pupil from Hillcrest National Technical Secondary School in Livingstone, Victoria Chisomo won the young scientist award girls’ category while Martin Namukombo from Kalumbwa Secondary School in Lufwanyama won the boys’ category.
And Zambia Daily Mail production editor Benedict Tembo won the NSTC best print media award for the second successive year while other journalist winners were Francesca Banda, a former Muvi TV employee, who won the best reporter in the electronic media category.
A Copperbelt University Lecturer in the School of Natural Resources, Professor Stephen Syampungani won the best science and technology merit award, male category while Dr Monde Muyoyeta, Director of TB programmes at Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) won female category.
Dr. Musenge urged the winners to be drivers of change towards a society that acknowledges the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation to national socio-economic development.
