Poor, fake qualifications costs 800 potential teachers

By Staff Reporter, Lusaka
Ministry of General Education has disqualified over 800 applicants in the just-ended teachers’ recruitment exercise.

The selection committee for the recent teacher’s recruitment took time to scrutinize the authenticity of applicants’ qualifications and discovered that some applicants forged their academic certificates.

And among other cardinal requirements that were seriously considered and used as a screening criteria during the selection exercise included a grade 12 certificate.

Minister of General Education John Phiri has since confirmed that over 800 applicants who did not have Grade 12 five O-Level passes and those who forged documents were rejected during the just-ended teacher recruitment exercise.

And ministry spokesperson, Hilary Chipango has said that the names of successful applicants will be shortlisted sooner than later.

Mr. Chipango added that the ministry has not delayed to publish the names of successful applicants.

“The process involved in the selection of teachers is long,” he said, adding that applicants should remain calm.
