LETTER: CBU C Block To Accommodate Females, Final Year Students Not a Priority;

Dear Editor
Allow me to air my views on the issues that most students are likely not to accept when 2015 academic year begins. The first one is on who should accommodate which hostels?

The Copperbelt University management must address the accommodation crisis once and for all.

Management pride itself that accommodation at the institution provides students with a secure, clean, comfortable and supportive living environment that enhances cooperative community living and students' personal, social and academic development 'bufi' its not true.

The Copperbelt University currently has a student population which stands around 9,300. Of these, the full time students total 6608 against 2,150 bed spaces. Life in campus for female students who are not accommodated is pathetic to say the least.

Apparently male students have expressed mixed feelings over alleged management decision to accommodate female students in Chambeshi hostel. It is obvious that if this decision by management come to pass, majority of the male students will not come to terms with it hence it will bring confusion in campus however, looking at how females students suffer regarding accommodation it is suffice to say that they deserve more rooms. For the fact no student is more student than the other, the idea of accommodating female students in Chambeshi hostel must be effected without fail. This will partially address the plight of female student at Copperbelt University.

I am a final year students this 2015 academic year, since my first year at CBU I have observed that female students are more inconvenienced by the limited number of accommodation space within campus. For this reason, every year their academic performance is always low as compared males.

Secondly, it is alleged that final year students are no longer a priority when it comes to accommodation instead 'fresher's', first years are a priority for the reasons best known by managements and perhaps COBUSU. It is my great concern as a final year female student to begin a final year without a room.

When I went to CBU, I found a policy which protected all final year students regarding accommodation. What has changed this year? Should a final year student do a final year project at boarding house?If so what's the pride of being in final year student?
