OSF hails NEVERS MUMBA

Open Society Foundation (OSF) has acclaimed Dr Nevers Mumba, the President for Movement for Multi Party Democracy for his economic diplomacy.

In a statement issued and made available to WM Media Pty. Ltd, OSF Executive Director, Obbius Chikombola has said it is an indisputable fact that Diplomacy has moved from the traditional relationship and ties based on mare mutual respect to Economic Diplomacy.

Mr Chikombola said “it is our wide held view that as a people of Zambia, we are not selling the country abroad.” It is in this light that we express our Gratitude to MMD President Dr Nevers Mumba who at this very time continues to sale the prospect of the country regardless been in the opposition to investors. It is this patriotism that as Open Society Foundation applauds today. He spoke at the Global Business Forum in South Africa recently as a True son of Zambia. He reminded Business Executive of the peace that prevails in our country that guarantee investors’ confidence on their Business’s going concern if they invest in Zambia. He further added on the massive infrastructure development in our country as a pool that investors can use to flourish their Business. He reminded them and assured them of a ready market and called them to come and establish a vehicle manufacturing plant.” He  said.

Mr Chikombola has since urged men in diaspora to emulate Dr Mumba.
“As Open Society Foundation, we wish to remind men in diaspora working as Ambassadors and as high commissioners to do their job and Emulate Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba. Diplomats are the marketers we have employed as a country and if they cannot market the country abroad, then they are failing in their duties and should be recalled. It is unacceptable for an Ambassador to spent years in diaspora without visible investment been brought into the country that is directly attributed to them.” He said.

Mr Chikomboal has also called on government to introduce performance measures for men in diaspora.

In the Light of the forgoing circumstances, Mr Chikombola said Open Society Foundation has observed that there is little connection between the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign affairs. These two ministries should coordinate to bring the much needed Foreign Direct investment in our country has it has come to light that the shortage of foreign currency in our country is as a result of the less investment coming into the country. Out of the on-going study, Open society foundation has observed that the government should find an equity partner and invest in a copper mine as this will bring foreign exchange directly into the country as thereby decrease the shortage of the dollar on the market and thus increasing the value of the kwacha.
