Salubusa:individual turned company

By Winston Muleba II, Zambia
Success come to those whom opportunities find prepared says Patrick Salubusa. He adds that youths must be focused, hardworking, disciplined, consistent and should have faith in whatever they are doing. “Everyone has a talent, and there’s never been a better time to turn a talent into turnover, the time is now.” he says.

Salubusa popularly known as Sauloshi is an actor and comedian who has transformed his talent into a company.

“Many people think Patrick Mwamba Salubusa (Sauloshi) is just an actor and a comedian whose jokes about his dark complexion and his life in the shanty compounds made him find himself a member of the Kings of Comedy, popularly known as the big dudes because of the popular Dorika & The Big Dudes Shows with comedians Bob Nkosha, Joseph Simukonda, Aubrey Luo and Isaac Chamba. But beside acting and stand-up-comedy I am also trained in video productions and public relations and currently pursuing a degree in audio visual communications.” he says.

Salubusa says his stage name has transformed into a company.
“I was born in Kabwe. When I graduated early from popular theatre to radio acting at the age of 17 years, and that is 17 years ago, I joined ZNBC’s Ifyabukaya Radio Drama playing the role of Sauloshi, I was just an individual but today my stage name has transformed into a company specialized in audio-visual productions, events public relations.” he says.

He says apart from being an active producer is he is involved in other activities including production of films and others.
“Currently, I am the Chairman of the Kings of Comedy as well as National Chairman for the National Association of Media Arts (NAMA), representing all those involved in the production of film, television and radio productions apart from being an active producer the mention activities keep me busy every other day.”

“My drama producing career was exploited to the fullest when I joined Yatsani Radio Station as a drama producer with one of my episodes there being recognized in the best media production award at the 2001 Ngoma Awards.” he says.

Salubusa says his credential made him transform Saulos Media Productions into a company called SMP Zambia Limited.
“ From being a theatre club in 1997 as Saulos Roots Theatre to a business name in 2006 and a company in 2010, SMP Zambia Limited has transformed itself into a corporate entity with the aim of raising standards and professionalism in the business of audio-visual productions, public relations and events management with a lot of individuals and the corporate world benefiting from its four-in-one event management service which entails the company providing a Master of Ceremony, a DJ plus Sound System, a photographer for still photos and a cameraman/editor for DVD production.”he says.

“With my talent and a qualification in behavior change communication plus a certificate in video editing from TEVETA and a diploma in public relations from Evelyn Hone College, even winning the best graduating PR student award, I transformed my business name called Saulos Media Productions into a company called SMP Zambia Limited. Through SMP Zambia Limited, I have a state-of-the-art audio studio and video editing suite and my company has created employment for seven people besides myself and among the dramas the company has produced includes those produced for MTN, ZANACO, ZICTA and HIVOS Southern Africa. The company has also produced adverts for various organizations with the most recent ones being those produced for the Electoral Commission of Zambia.”

He says a good production should move, inspire and influence change.
“As a producer I believe that a good production should move and inspire and influence change of trends in human behavioral patterns in our societies and communities. It is against this that my company is known for its four-in-one service but we have graduated slowly and strategically to offer full events management services as a company and this means that we assist with the designing, planning and management of any in-door or out-door event,” he says.

Salubusa says he began negotiations for establishing initiating a film and drama school.
“In the meantime, my firm has already started negotiations with TEVETA and Great North Road Academy on the possibility of initiating a film and drama school which will train creative minds in filmmaking, acting and stand-up-comedy. I don’t have any doubt that this project will be a success because for a period of time I have developed excellent knowledge and practical experiences in almost all areas of project management, inception, design, administration, reporting, budgeting, contract negotiations, implementation, monitoring and evaluation moreover my staff members are also highly qualified to carry the tasks involved. For example our video editor Mark Lungu was once a video production lecturer at ZAMCOM. Besides the school project my firm is acquiring new filmmaking equipment because we have now embarked on a project aimed at producing a television series on the life in the shanty compounds called Ghetto Mates and will see upcoming actors share the same platform with veterans like Joseph Simukonda, Chongo “Shin’gonga” Lembalemba, Isaac Chamba, Gift Muneka and others.Ghetto Mates, which is being shot in Lusaka, the firm will start shooting a film called “Tondolo” with the same cast.“Tondolo will simply be a local language film with international standards and will be premiered in Lusaka and the Copperbelt in December this year,” he says.

He says comdey lovers must expect a bomb of laughter gift from Sauloshi.
“Television series lovers must wait for Ghetto Mates and cinema lovers wait for Tondolo it is comedy lovers who will be the first ones to receive a bomb of laughter gift from Sauloshi with the launch of his stand-up-comedy DVD set for 3rd and 4th October 2014 at Lusaka Playhouse.”

“I want people to remember me as someone who put person talents first regardless of the differences I had with that person.” he says.

Have faith in whatever you are doing. It is that simple, you can do it.
