Government has moved to protect the rights of people living with albinism and has approved the recognition of 13th June as the International Albinism Awareness Day.
At its 20th Cabinet meeting held on Monday at State House, Government said it had decided to recognize the International Albinism Awareness Day which is the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council resolutions on the attacks and discrimination of persons with albinism.
In a statement by Chief Government spokesperson read by Sports Minister Vincent Mwale, Government said there was need for technical cooperation for the prevention of the attacks against persons with albinism.
Mr Mwale said the move by Government was meant to protect the rights of people living with albinism and that the decision was going to give credence to Zambia’s efforts to preserve the lives of persons with albinism so they could enjoy full life with dignity and security.
“This could not have come at a better time than now when the country is still concerned at the brutal murder of an
albino woman in Lundazi in June this year which was suspected to have been a ritual killing,” Mr Mwale said.- Daily Nation Zambia
