One Life Lost In Mazhandu Bus Accident In Ndola

A Mazhandu family Bus carrying passengers from Lusaka to Kitwe overturned claiming one life and leaving several others injured including the driver in Ndola today. 

The accident which occurred around 14 hours near Kasongo turn- off along Ndola- Kitwe dual carriage way had 19 passengers aboard after several other passengers disembarked at in Ndola. 

A Check by ZANIS at the accident scene found that the victims had been rushed to Ndola Central hospital (NCH) for treatment. 

Ndola Central Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sebastian Chinkoyo confirmed the accident in an interview, today. 

He told ZANIS in Ndola that the Hospital received 19casualties among them a driver and one dead body. 

Dr.Chinkoyo said among the 18 victims, only one was seriously injured and was taken to the Theatre for an operation by press time. 
“We have received 18 Casualties and one dead body from the accident scene, amongst the 13, only one is seriously injured while others have soft tissue in juries he said”. 

Dr. Chinkoyo further disclosed that among the 18 Casualties the Hospital received, was a seven months old baby who was transferred to Arthur Davies Children’s Hospital (ADH) for treatment adding that the rest have been discharged. 

Barnabas Kaunda a survivor found at the accident scene narrated that the bus wasn’t over speeding adding that it overturned due the rains causing the road to be slippery. 
“I am very surprised, the bus wasn’t over speeding, and the speed limit was just between 40 and 50. The bus overturned due to the slippery road,” he noted. 

And a Mazhandu Conductor who asked not to be named said that the bus overturned because of the state of the road which was slippery due to the rains. He also lamented that the bus wasn’t overspending saying the speed limit was between 50 and 55. 

Efforts to get a comment from Copperbelt Commissioner of Police, Joyce Kasosa proved futile as the information had not reached her office by press time.
