Majority of the people in rural areas do not have access to
internet. Worse more, only few Zambian have access to
broad internet, currently only 15.4% of the Zambians
population have access to the internet.
This evidently shows
that out of the gross population of 14million people only
2million are internet users.
Against this background, only approximately 5million people
are eligible voters according to the ECZ records for 2011.
Out of the eligible voters, majority are youths.
The realities on the ground are that majority of the voters
are street vendors, kaponya’s, marketers and people in the
rural areas. It is suffice to say that the aforementioned
groups of individuals hardly have access to broad internet.
How many marketers or street vendors have time to
facebook as they work? Obviously the answer is only a
fraction of them. WHY THEN SHOULD NAMED POLITICAL
PARTIES BOAST THAT THEY HAVE WON THE FORTH COMING
PRESIDENTIAL BY-ELECTION BASING THEIR JUDGEMENTS
ON FACEBOOK POLLS?
Individuals and some media houses have resorted to
conducting opinion polls which do not actually represent the
truth obtaining on the ground.
The opinion polls have ended up causing havoc and panic
between cadres from different political affiliations, this is to
say online opinion polls have now become a contributing
factor to violence yet do not represent the truth obtaining on
the ground.
It is imperative that we wait for 20th January, 2014 for
5million people to cast their votes, because its only then that
we will get to know the preferred presidential candidate by
Zambians.
The online opinion polls are bogus and aimed at misleading
people. A facebook page or group of less than 1million followers is not good enough for a good sample size.
