Board pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles at your own risk - RTSA

By Staff Writer, Lusaka
The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has urged members of the public not to board pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles as the latter compromise the safety of members of the traveling public.

RTSA head of public relations, Frederick Mubanga says the use of pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles for public transportation is against the Road Traffic Act No.11 of 2002.

Mr Mubanga adds that the warning comes in a wake of increased use of pirate taxis and unregistered motor vehicles for criminal activities that have left some victims dead and injured in some parts of the country.

He says the agency is urging the general public to use registered Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) such as buses and taxis to avoid being victims of the killings that have of late become rampant.

Mr Mubanga further explains that anyone boarding a taxi should ensure that they take note of the registration mark of the motor vehicle that they are on and inform the next of kin whenever they are using public transport.

“Criminals have taken advantage of pirate taxis which they are using to attack and kill people in unclear circumstances,” he says.

Meanwhile, RTSA is working with the Zambia Police to address the situation and encourage the public to use registered modes of road transport such as buses and registered taxes.
