5 steps to follow if you want to drill a borehole anywhere in Zambia | WestMac Media

By Trust Hatuma

Just to assist fellow farmers on the steps to follow when drilling a new borehole. The procedure is as follows:-

1) Notify/apply to Water Resource Management Authority (WARMA) for drilling of borehole in writing through approved forms.
2) WARMA will respond within 30 days of the application.
3) If approved, you pay K250 for the drilling permit.
4) Get your place surveyed.
5) Present your permit and survey report to a driller of your choice who must be certified by WARMA.

The driller will drill and construct the borehole as per guidelines specified in the Act.
• Borehole will be fully cased from top to bottom.
• Bottom plug.
• Sanitary seal (grouting).
• Borehole completion report.

Dry boreholes to be buried and plugged within 24hours and existing boreholes to be registered within 6 months from the date the Act was published at a fee of K250/ borehole.
