Women urged to utilize empowerment funds

First Lady Esther Lungu has urged women in the country to take advantage of women empowerment funds being offered by government. 

And Community Development Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister, Josephine Limata encouraged the women to utilise the women empowerment fund. 

Mrs. Lungu says women in the country should take advantage of the empowerment funds government was offering through the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health according to ZANIS. 

She has since urged women to report all cases of favouritism in the awarding of the women empowerment funds to relevant authorities. 

The First Lady said this in Kaoma district of Western Province yesterday when she met some women clubs and associations. 

During the same event, Mrs. Lungu handed over K10, 000 cash to be shared amongst four women clubs. The First Lady also gave blankets to a total of 21 older people in the district. 

Mrs. Lungu said all women in the country must benefit from government policies of women empowerment. 

She has however called for patience from women as they wait to be empowered because funds may not be released in a lump sum. 

Mrs. Lungu said all concerns that have been raised from the district will be highlighted to the Head of State. 

She said President Edgar Lungu is committed to ensuring that the plight of the people of Kaoma District is looked into. 

She said there is also need for hard work among the recipients of the empowerment funds so as to maximise profits. 

The First Lady said that the next time she visits, she wants to find the women of Kaoma District living better lives than she left them. 

Speaking earlier, Community Development Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister, Josephine Limata encouraged the women to utilise the women empowerment fund. 

Ms. Limata said her Ministry is trying its level best in empowering more women in the country.
