Copperbelt Province Minister Mwenya Musenge has urged farmers country wide to be creative and add value to agricultural
produce to enhance and sustain productivity.
Mr Musenge said farmers should take farming seriously adding that it is the centre stage of economic development.
The Copperbelt Province Minister said farmers can not achieve super normal profits by selling their produce but
through value addition.
"May I take this opportunity to encourage farmers in the country to take farming serious as it is the centre stage of our economy today. You can not only achieve the required profit just by selling your produce, much needed profit can only be realized after adding value to the produce," he said.
He further urged farmers to have a good link with agricultural research and extension if productivity was to be sustained.
Mr Musenge who is also Chimwemwe Member of Parliament said this when he officially opened the Lufwanyama District
Agricultural Show today.
Mr. Musenge, however, expressed sadness to see that only eight out of 33 agricultural camps in Lufwanyama district have camp houses.
ZANIS reports that the Copperbelt Province Minister assured agricultural officers in the district that government is
working tirelessly to ensure that more camp houses are erected adding that funds have already been set aside.
He added that government has gone further by diversifying the farming program by bringing on board other crops such as ground nuts, rice, sorghum and many other crops. ZANIS
