The African Initiative for Youth Participation in Politics and Governance has called on parliamentarians to reflect on how much the proposed extension would hinder young people from participating in
national duties.
Initiative President John Luneta says Zambia is not ready to have an extension in the period of office for elective position from 5 to 7 years.
He says instead, people should advocate for a reduction in the term of office for these positions as having them in office for a longer period would make them too reluctant and failing to deliver service effectively.
Mr. Luneta says for Zambia’s democracy to grow further, the term of office for elective positions should be shortened as opposed to extending the period.
