The Central Committee of the Patriotic Front (PF) which met on Saturday, October 1st, 2016 at State House in Lusaka to
deliberate a number of important issues endorsed the Candidature of Kitwe Mayor Councillor Christopher Pikiti-kang'ombe for the position of President of Local Government Association of
Zambia (LGAZ).
In a statement made available to WM Media, PF Secretary General Davies
Mwila stated that the party expects all PF councillors to vote for Councillor Kang’ombe and thereafter, offer him necessary support to succeed in his work bearing in mind that his success would be the success of the PF as a whole.
Mr Kang'ombe, a former Copperbelt University Student Union (COBUSU) president contested for election as Ward Councilor for Riverside Ward in
Kitwe’s Kwacha constituency which he won in the 2006 general elections.
His appetite for public service grew while
he was a student leader and by the time he was graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering in 2009, he was still serving as Riverside Ward Councilor.
Turning 32-years this December, professionally, Mr Kang'ombe joined Luanshya Copper Mines in 2009
and later Mopani Copper Mines as Senior Assistant Engineer in both instances. He later moved on to Atlas Copco (Z) Limited as a Sales Engineer for mining and processing equipment, a professional position he held since 2010 until he was elected Kitwe Executive in the 2016 general election.
During a National Executive Committee members chaired by President Edgar Lungu the PF also confronted the re-admission matter that has been gnawing at the party’s conscience.
The Central Committee has reiterated the provisions of the PF constitution regarding former members applying for re-admission
as outline in article 74 sub-article 16 which states that a person who resigns from the Party shall not apply for re-admission within three years from the date of resignation.
