Following a record 405,038 votes, AAAS are proud to announce the 2014
GIST Tech-I finalists. The top 30 finalists have been selected based on
their expert panel scores and their public voting tally. All finalists will
now progress to the live pitching finals in Marrakech, Morocco on
November 20-21, 2014.
TOP 15 IDEA STAGE FINALISTS
Muchu Kaingu, a Zambian, is
one of the 30 finalists. He is developing m-Retailer, a
cloud-based mobile application that interfaces with Point of
Sale and Stock Management Systems to give better business
insights to retailers. With m-Retailer, retailers in Africa can
use their smart phones to do the following:
1. Quickly perform stock enquiries by scanning barcodes
2. Take inventory of their stock
3. Place orders for stock that is running low on the go
4. Place orders at supplier’s facilities
5. Access all their business information remotely.

TOP 15 START UP STAGE FINALISTS
Mawano Kambeu, a start-up finalist, is developing a way for Zambians to
reserve and pay for bus travel with their smart phones, computers, or
third-party sellers like the post office. Like many of the other finalists, he
is impressed with the exposure that Bus Tickets Zambia has received as a
result of the competition. "We have received numerous positive messages
from the general public, especially on social media," he said. "Most of the
feedback has been consumers who would ultimately end up using our
products and a lot of their comments have validated the earlier research
we did and gave us the confidence to push this project further."
