Many of ills associated with negative teen culture nowdays, such as over-
clubbing, doing drugs, premarital and unprotected sex, indulging in heavy
drinking etc. are blamed on the altar of peer pressure. This is an
outcome of a strong desire to conform and loss of identity. Many teenagers
manage to overcome the challenges of this transitional period in life, and
pursue their dream and goals.
According to Deondriea Cantrice, "Confidence
is key! I discovered, the more confident I became in myself and my abilities
the less the hardships of life affected me. Once you know your identity, you
will know what you should be doing and won't be threaten or distracted by
others."
Building one's identity and forging a sense of self-worth are key
ingredients in overcoming peer pressure and a way out of the trappings of
negative teen culture.
