Apple CEO Tim Cook: 'I'm Proud to Be Gay'

Throughout my professional life, I’ve tried to maintain a basic level of privacy. I come from humble roots, and I don’t seek to draw attention to myself. Apple is already one of the most closely watched companies in the world, and I like keeping the focus on our products and the incredible things our customers achieve with them.

At the same time, I believe deeply in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, who said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ” I often challenge myself with that question, and I’ve come to realize that my desire for personal privacy has been holding me back from doing something more important. That’s what has led me to today.

Samsung unveils Galaxy A series smartphones A5 and A3 targeted at the youth

The Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 are not strangers to us. They have leaked before in very accurate photos. With just a few differences in the specifications leaked before and what Samsung has today officially announced, they were a long time coming and if priced well could be the start of better quarterly reports as far as financial losses currently plaguing the company are concerned.

The Galaxy A series of mid-range smartphones is targeted at the youthful crowd with features like the camera’s selfie-taking capabilities taking centre stage and social networking using the devices being the main highlight. Of the two, the Galaxy A5 is the more “senior” device as it packs specs superior to the Galaxy A3 while still being able to come in slimmer than the latter. Both devices are incredibly slim at just under 7mm.

By Laura Lokkie

Carlos doesn’t need to be in far away lands to take nice photos – during the school year, the flora and fauna in his garden and surrounding Teruel can’t escape the “clicks” of his camera.

Story of Basanta Adhikari, a youth advocate in Nepal

“To fall in a mud is not a disgrace but to stay there is”.

I failed many times in my life, but I never thought myself as a failure, more I failed, more I tried to stand up being stronger than before. For me Muhammad Ali is right, he says, “The meaning of life is not simply to exist or to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to achieve, to conquer”.

I always think with same attitude to make myself better person than before and help the people who are in need. What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?

Why young entrepreneurs need our attention

By Richard Branson
When I started Virgin more than four decades ago, I wanted to make people’s lives better. I felt then, and still feel, that business has enormous potential to be a force for good in the world. Companies can realize this potential by looking for ways to do things differently, and by putting our people and the planet up alongside profit as our driving forces. These are mutually reinforcing opportunities. Business doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game, where some win and others lose. Done right, everybody stands to gain — companies, communities, and the beautiful planet we live on.

To achieve lasting progress we must nurture and learn from the next generation of business leaders. Some of these rising stars are already ahead of the curve, especially in the way they weave together their social and entrepreneurial passions. I think all of us could be doing more to encourage and support them. Businesses have a major role to play in tackling the world’s toughest challenges. To me, it makes perfect sense to tap into the energy of young business leaders who are not afraid to start companies and see how their products and services can make a difference in the world.

Lifting Africa up by empowering its youth

By Fred Swaniker
Finding opportunities for young people is a critical challenge for Africa, where 62 percent of the population—more than 600 million young people—is below the age of 25. With no signs that population growth will slow in the decades to come, it is imperative that Africa leverage the talent and energy of its youth to create dramatically higher levels of prosperity and equality and avoid the latent risks of unemployment and social instability.

Today, Africa finds itself in a precarious position on this most important issue. Youth unemployment is three times the continent’s overall average. The World Bank found that young people under 25 represent three-fifths of sub-Saharan Africa’s unemployed population, and 72 percent of the youth population lives on less than $2 a day. To help their families, 30 percent of children between the ages of 5 and 14 are forced to work, which robs them of the educational opportunities that could break their families’ cycles of intergenerational poverty.

Why Ideas Are Everything

The Idea vs. Execution Debate: Why Ideas Are Everything
"Ideas, my dear, are a dime a dozen. Execution is not. Execution is the thing—it is rare and it is revered. The idea is not. There are many ideas and far fewer successful executions.”

So sayeth the wise and bloviating, some would call seasoned CEO, speaking in a half-baked English accent one morning over salty eggs and exceedingly strong conference coffee.

First things first: Do not call me “dear” or “kiddo” or anything other than my name—especially over salty eggs. It makes me cranky.

From Frustration into Profit: Former Dancer Talks Journey to Launch Eco-Friendly Undergarment

By Kandia Johnson
Ladies, how many times have you searched for nude undergarments or lipstick colors only to find the nude product didn’t match the color of your skin tone? For most people, the solution to this problem is beyond their control. For game changers, however, such as New York-based founder of Nude Barre, Erin Carpenter, the solution lies within–identify a problem and redefine the way people think about a product or service in a particular market.

“During my first photo shoot as a Knicks City Dancer in 2007, I was often required to wear flesh toned dance tights, fishnets, and a strapless/convertible bra undergarments as part of my uniform,” Carpenter says. “During the shoot, all the dancers were complaining about how their tights, by the leading dance brands, did not match their skin color and looked crazy. I would spend hour’s dying/spray painting tights and shoes to match my skin tone.”
In true entrepreneurial fashion—during a moment of frustration—Carpenter founded Nude Barre, a specialty line of eco-riendly undergarments made in 16 shades of nude to match all skin tones.
Six years later, several celebrities have been “caught in the nude.”  From talk show host Wendy Williams who serves as a product ambassador to members of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives franchise and members of The New York Knicks’ Dancers.
