CBU closed, students told to vacate campus within 24hrs

By Staff Reporter
The Copperbelt University (CBU) has been closed indefinitely and with immediate effect, students have been told to vacate the university premises within 24hrs.

Education Minister, Michael Kaingu has ordered for the closure of the university indefinitely with immediate effect, July 8.

“I am not taking any pleasure in closing the University but wants the CBU Academic Union to resolve the wrangles that have disturbed academic life of students,” said Dr Kaingu.

The decision to close the University was passed by the Education Minister following the recent fracas between the Vice Chancellor, Naison Ngoma and the Academic Union.

Addressing journalists today during a media briefing in Lusaka, Education Minister Dr. Michael Kaingu said the closure will not affect the School of Medicine and the School of Graduate studies.

Dr. Kaingu explained that the two schools have continued with their normal academic programmes and he has since commended the staff of the two schools for their dedication to duty.

Dr. Kaingu also stated that the graduation ceremony, which is scheduled for 23rd and 24th July 2015, will take place as planned adding that it will not be disturbed in anyway.
