The Zambian Governance Foundation (ZGF) has awarded 11 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with grants
which will complement efforts in the thematic areas of environmental justice, land rights, child labour and youth empowerment.
The total financial commitment from the EU towards the 11 grants is approximately ZMW 6,000,000.
The CSOs that received the grant include: YWCA - Mongu, VAREN, AGE Justice International, Alliance for Community Action, Caritas Chipata, Caritas Mansa, Caritas Solwezi, DOPE – Mpika, Kawambwa Farmers Association, PEACE and SPRIZ.
Speaking at the signature ceremony, European Union (EU) Representative Ms Fabienne Van Den Eede emphasized on
the issue of seeing results being scored by the new partners.
She said promoting human rights is at the core of what EU stands for.
Ms Van Den Eede added that reaching out to local civil society is one of EU's priorities.
She further said the way to access to justice for all is still long but with concerted efforts of everyone, civil society, government and Cooperating Partners steps in the right direction are being made.
And the Assistant Director in the Ministry of Justice Ms Lydia Mapato appreciated the partnership between civil society and her ministry and further added that they will continue to support CSOs.
