Students complained that it was costly for them to continue living on campus without accommodation and project allowances when lecturers were not conducting classes adding that exams are also around the corner.
Students talked to alluded that go-slow could affect their results.
During the rio better known as 'Viva', students sang songs
denouncing government of the day for failing to pay them outstanding allowances in time.
The deserving students said project and accommodation allowance were their entitlements.
“We are also demanding that our project and accommodation allowance are paid immediately. This is money which is already budgeted for, so we don’t understand why we have to protest to get it,” students said.
Around 8:30pm, students went on to block the Great East Road and burnt tyres but stopped when state police arrived at campus to calm the situation around 10:30pm.
Meanwhile, at the time of press no student was reported to have been caught by the police.
