Mr. Zimba says youths should desist from citing high
unemployment levels in the country as a challenge but
instead focus on contributing to the country’s growth
through self-employment.
He said by engaging in entrepreneurship most of the youths would become key players in the national economy and eventual national growth.
He said the country would only develop and sustain its growth if youths in the county stopped using excuses such high unemployment levels and disability to remain idle.
ZANIS reports that the Acting District Commissioner said this
at the burial of 77 year old Newspaper Vendor Daniel
Mundungani at Nakatindi Graveyard iin Livingstone.
The late Mr. Mundungani was born deaf and had speech impairment.
The Acting District Commissioner noted that despite his
disability and being uneducated, Mr. Mundungani was
entrepreneurial in nature with good communication and
mathematical skills.
Mr. Zimba said Mr. Mundungani who was the longest serving
newspaper vendor in Livingstone had proved that disability
was not a barrier.
“Mr. Mundungani has taught us a lesson. You cannot be a
beggar due to a disability; find something to do and develop
the economy using local resources,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Times of Zambia Bureau Chief for the
South-West Region Brian Hatyoka urged the mourners to
emulate Mr. Mundungani and his spirit of hard work which
could not be suppressed by his limited abilities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mundungani’s nephew Msusa Matengu said
the family was grateful for the support rendered by
government, the private sector and the Livingstone City
Council to give the deceased a dignified burial.
Mr. Mundungani sold newspapers on behalf of Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail, The Mast and Daily Nation.
He died of Acute Heart Failure and Chronic Kidney failure on 27 May 2017 at the Livingstone Central Hospital. LT
