Some women in Chipata district have asked that they should be fully included in women empowerment programs.
Mbenjele Market Committee vice chairlady, Sarah Tembo, notes that less women access empowerment programs
compared to those in urban areas.
Mrs. Tembo says that while women in urban areas have been receiving help, those in rural areas often lose out on
women empowerment opportunities.
She also explained that there is need to formulate new modalities and conditions when offering empowerment opportunities to rural women.
Mrs. Tembo says rural women also have potential to contribute to family and national economy if empowered.
And Chief Chikuwe’s induna, Headman Londolani noted that information about empowerment programmes often reaches rural areas late.
He cited the Presidential Initiative Empowerment Fund projects, where marketeers in the area received information and forms very late.
