A Lusaka female traffic officer is nursing serious injuries after being hit close to death by a PSV driver today (yesterday).
Eye witness told WM Media that an officer only identified as Marjory Moyo as per traffic operation stopped a Toyota Hiace bus registration number ALJ 7248 with a view to checking the certificate of fitness.
“The driver realized that the bus had no certificate, so he attempted to escape and, in the process, hit the cop,” explained the source.
And police assistant public relations officer has confirmed that Steven Phiri, 23, of Mtendere was driving a Toyota Hiace registration number ALJ 7248 when he ran over constable Marjory Moyo as he tried to escape.
After bashing Ms Moyo, Phiri tried to flee the scene but was caught by a mob which beat him gruesomely until the police intervened and arrested him.
The incident happened at University of Zambia Marshaland area.
Meanwhile, at press time, sources at Levy Mwanawasa general hospital where she was admitted described her condition as critical.
