Mwiza is a television and radio presenter in Zambia and she has been chosen as one of MISA’s 2014 Women to Watch.
Every year, on 8 March, people all around the world celebrate International Women’s Day. To commemorate the day in 2014, we are unveiling MISA’s Women to Watch – 12 women from across southern Africa who are contributing to the achievement of media freedom and freedom of expression in the region.
After appearing on live television for the first time at the age of three, Mwiza was hooked and since the age of 10 she has held several presenter roles on Muvi TV, ZNBC and Radio Phoenix in Zambia. Mwiza currently presents a weekly Saturday program on Hot FM radio called Hot Kids 'n' Teens Avenue.
Already in her career, Mwiza has interviewed a number of high profile personalities including the First Lady of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Christine Kaseba Sata.
She is passionate about protecting human rights - especially children's rights - and upholding media ethics. She is also an advocate against early marriages and drug abuse among young people. She has authored a number of media statements including one which called for national media ban of a song that was encouraging sex with underage girls.
“I am inspired by the many children in Zambia and in the region who are suffering. I want to do something to better their lives and I know I can,” says Mwiza.
She first appeared on a live television program with her father when she was only three years old and she stunned the presenters when she answered questions about the political leadership of Zambia off cuff.
