Shock waves ran through the African student community in Ahmedabad on Tuesday after news of a 20-year-old Zambian student's death became public.
Muleya Zuka Syakavuba, a student of third year BA, economics at St Xavier's College, had allegedly hanged herself in her room in a paying guest facility near Vijay crossroads.
Investigators said that while they have not found any suicide note from the spot, they have found WhatsApp messages on her mobile phone that show a long spat with her suspected boyfriend where she had said 'I have decided to end my life' before signing off.
Police have sent her mobile phone and
laptop for forensic investigation to find more leads.
Police said that as she is a foreign national, her postmortem would be conducted by a panel of doctors.
Her parents are expected to reach Ahmedabad before this weekend to
receive her body.
G S Bariya, inspector of Gujarat University police station, said that Meena Shah, 50, runs a paying guest facility for students at Neelima Park Society near Vijay crossroads.
At 8.50 pm on October 24, she went to Zuka's room on second floor and knocked several times on the door.
When she did not get any response, the door was broken and Zuka was found hanging from a hook in the ceiling by a nylon rope.
Shah immediately informed city police control room, after which a team reached the spot with forensic science experts.
“Primary investigation revealed that she was on student visa
since July 2014. Her visa was until July 2017. She was living
alone in the PG for past six months and had a room to
herself,” Bariya added.
“We will record statements of her friends, local guardians
and teachers to learn more of the matter,” he said. Source: Times of India
