B'Flow becomes first artiste to launch an album at American embassy in Zambia

By Staff Reporter, LUSAKA
The founder of Music 4 Change Initiative Brian Bwembya better known as B'Flow successfully launched his 'Dear Mama' album at American embassy premises in Lusaka.

Speaking at a powerful and colorful event on Thursday, B'Flow a Lusaka based dancehall artiste said this day was one of the most important days in his career and only wished the Mother was alive to witness his success.

“I want all my supporters and fans to know that this is one of the most important days in my career. This is a very happy day and I wish Mama was around,” he said.

He said he was launching an album for the first time and described this historical event as an opportunity.

“I'm launching an album for the first time. I'm also the first to launch an album at the embassy of the United States. We are making history here with this high-level event which will be attended by the Deputy Assistant Secretary all the way from Washington DC and the US Ambassador,” B'Flow said.

And US Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz said the U.S. Mission in Zambia is proud to work with young leaders like B'Flow on programs that support women’s empowerment and youth engagement.

Ambassador Schultz said, “Like all Zambians, youth have a responsibility and right to participate in the democratic process of Zambia in the upcoming elections and to uphold Zambia’s international reputation as a leader of peaceful democratic transitions.”

He added that the U.S government is confident that Zambia will uphold its reputation of a peaceful, democratic nation and to that end reiterated the U.S. government commitment to assist.

During the launch event, visiting U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Todd Haskell said that when President Obama launched the Young African Leaders Initiative in 2010, he did so because he realized the potential of African youth given that the majority of the population in Africa is young people.

Haskell encouraged young Zambians to fulfill civic responsibilities and to play a role in Zambia’s democratic process by voting on August 11.

Haskell also reiterated that, “The U.S. government cares about elections in Africa and we seek the same outcomes we do around the globe –free, fair, peaceful, and transparent elections.”

And Minister of Youth Vincent Mwale took time to congratulate B'Flow for successfully launching his Dear Mama album at the embassy of the United States.

The minister said B'Flow is now an icon who has continued to make Zambia proud through his music and activism.

B'Flow was flanked by 2016 Mandela Washington Fellows, Zambian artistes and many other high profiled officials.
