President Edgar Lungu says investing in young people is the foundation for ensuring prosperity, peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region. 

President Lungu has since implored Ministers In-Charge of Youth Affairs in the region to integrate youths in the economic development agenda.

Applications are open for the CIVICUS Fellows Programme. CIVICUS’ Fellows Programme is an exciting new venture in which key professionals are placed with CIVICUS national/regional member organisations for a period of two (2) years. 

The primary aim of the programme is to promote knowledge exchange and learning, and build the capacity of both the host organisation and their members. During this round, the fellow will be placed with Réseau des Plates-formes d’ONG d’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre (REPAOC), based in Dakar, Senegal. However, the Fellowship programme is anticipated to be July or August, starting with a 2 weeks induction in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

Eligibility 

» At least 2-3 years of work experience in institutional capacity building, network development, and/or civil society strengthening; 

» Demonstrated long term commitment to civil society and citizen action; 

» Demonstrated or proven experience with capacity building/training/institutional strengthening; 

» Written and verbal fluency in English and French.

President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has commended the Zambia Under-20 Soccer team for putting up a gallant fight at the ongoing Under-20 FIFA World Cup in South Korea which saw them reach the quarter finals. 

Continued use of young children as guides for blind persons disheartening - Dr Hamukale

Government says it is concerned about the continued use of children as guides for visually impaired people, as their access to education is affected. 

Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale says it is disheartening for children to miss school at the expense of their visually impaired parents and relatives.

The Pan-African trust program of DotConnectAfrica (DCA) has announced the 2016/17 winners of the Miss.Africa Seed Funding for STEM Programs. 

Abo Coders, Nigeria emerged winner of the grand prize of Five Thousand United States Dollars (5000 USD) while Bahir Dar University STEM Center, Ethiopia and Ubongo Game Lab, Zambia scooped the second prize package of One Thousand United States Dollars (1,000 USD) under the Geographic/ Country Category for initiatives that create socio-economic value for women by effectively leveraging tech opportunities.
