The 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum has concluded at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, bringing to a close several days of engagement between young people, governments and development partners on advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Held under the theme “Innovate, Unite and Transform: Youth Shaping the Road to 2030,” the Forum drew thousands of young participants from across the world, providing a platform to exchange ideas, share innovative solutions and contribute to global policy discussions on sustainable development.
In his closing remarks, the President of the UN Economic and Social Council, His Excellency Lok Bahadur Thapa, underscored the critical role of young people in shaping inclusive policies. He emphasized that youth leadership remains indispensable and called for greater inclusion of young people in decision-making processes. He further stressed the need to scale up financing for youth-led initiatives in order to fully unlock their potential.
As the United Nations’ largest annual youth gathering, the ECOSOC Youth Forum continues to serve as a key platform for amplifying youth voices and strengthening partnerships aimed at accelerating development outcomes.
Zambia was represented by a delegation led by Ms. Kangwa Mubanga, Acting Council Secretary at the National Youth Development Council. The delegation included two youth representatives, Mr. James Muleya and Ms. Olivia Tutu, alongside Ms. Brenda Mwenya Chasaya, Assistant Director in the Youth Department, and Mr. Nchimunya Ng’andu, Principal Public Relations Officer at the Ministry.
Throughout the Forum, the Zambian delegation participated in plenary sessions and engaged in a number of meaningful side events, contributing to discussions on youth empowerment, innovation and sustainable development, while also fostering partnerships with other stakeholders.
