The Copperbelt University (CBU) in Kitwe has cordially invited graduating students to its 24th Graduation Ceremony to be held on Thursday, 23rd and Friday, 24th July, 2015 at Copperbelt University, Riverside Campus.
The university management has issued a notice stating that only students who have cleared with the University and paid participation fee of K250 and K300 for Postgraduates will be allowed to graduate.
Graduating students have received the introduction of participation fee with mixed feelings, others alleging that it is daylight robbery and exploitation.
For the very first time in the history of the Copperbelt University graduating students have been mandatory asked to pay a participation fee to attend 24th Graduation Ceremony.
Some graduating students have reached to an extent of questioning the University management through social media questions like “where will the graduating students get the money to pay as participation fee adding that majority of the graduands have no employment and only used to survive on government sponsorship for their education.”
By press time, the phone for the institution Deputy Registrar - Academic Affairs, Mrs Chinyanta was off.
The University management has since set 23rd July, 2015 has a graduation date for the School of Natural Resources, School of Graduate Studies, School of Built Environment and School of Mines and Minerals Sciences.
Other schools including the School of Business, School of Engineering , School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Directorate of Distance Education and Open Learning will be graduating on 24th July, 2015.
