Western province Minister Ponsiso Njeulu says government considers the upholding of the empowerment of women and evaluating progress made towards its goal as paramount.
Mr Njeulu has also emphasized the need for the public service to enhance accessibility to public goods and services
through innovative programmes.
ZANIS reports that Mr Njeulu said this at celebrations held in Mongu yesterday to commemorate Africa Public Service
Day.
This was in a speech read on his behalf by Western province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba.
Mr. Njeulu explained that the introduction of the women economic empowerment fund to assist women in businesses has scored a lot of successes as various women
clubs have benefitted from it.
He said Government remains committed to the cause of gender equality and empowerment by standing for zero tolerance to early, forced and child marriages.
Mr Njeulu noted that the creation of new districts which Western province has benefited from is a deliberate move
by the government in taking development through goods and services to the grass root level in-terms of decentralisation.
Mr. Njeulu said government will also ensure that the public service plays a critical role in improving accessibility to
public goods and services in-order to enhance the livelihood of the people.
He called on the public service to double its effort at creating a permissive and supportive environment for the promotion
and empowerment of women in the country.
The Western province Minister hoped that with the deliberate policies in place by the government, the provision of goods and services by the public service will be achieved with concerted efforts.
This year's Public service day was celebrated under the Theme: The role of public service in women empowerment,
innovation and accessible service delivery.
