There are a lot of fraudsters and crooks who swindle people on Facebook and make a living out of it. Do not do the following:-
1. Do not send fuel money to anyone to bring the vehicle for viewing or purchase (if they can afford to own a vehicle than they can afford fuel).
2. Do not pay any deposit via Airtel/Mtn money transfer or Zoona without first having the motor vehicle in your possession
3. Do not pay for any motor vehicle before establishing the following:-
a. The rightful owner from RTSA (even if you are presented with a book you can verify with RTSA as an extra precaution)if you are not dealing with the owner than withdraw immediately.
b. Very important - double check the chassis
number and engine number to correspond with book of the motor vehicle. Some people
sell vehicles with stolen engines and change chassis numbers which can land you
in trouble.
4. Always ensure you have a letter of sale which also indicates the registration number chassis number and engine number of the motor vehicle
5. Get a copy of the sellers NRC, residential or work address, telephone number and have at least 2 witnesses one for the seller and one for the buyer.
6. Always trust your instincts don’t proceed if you are in doubt.
