Using powers vested in her through the
republican constitution, Section 82, (2), Malawi president Joyce Banda
has ordered that Malawi electoral commission (MEC) should stop
counting of the votes claiming there have been a lot of irregularities
adding that fresh elections will be called in 90 days where she will not
contest as a presidential candidate to give chance to Malawians to elect a
leader of their choice.
She was speaking this during the
press conference which she conducted at Kamuzu Palace a short while
ago. It is yet to be seen if this order will be obeyed considering the fact
that it is increasing becoming acceptable that opposition Democratic
Progressive Party president (DPP) Peter Mutharika has won the
presidency.
The move by Malawi president Joyce Banda is likely to be a recipe of
violence in the country as this will not go down well with DPP supporters.
