Horse Shoe workers sides with minister, dispels HRC findings

By Staff Reporter, Lusaka
Workers of the now famous 'Horse Shoe restaurant in Lusaka have termed the Human Rights Commission (HRC) findings of abuse of their rights by the Restaurant management as untrue.

In an interview when the affected workers stormed Muvi TV studios in Lusaka said there is no abuse of workers at the restaurant as highlighted by Labour Minister, Joyce Simukoko.

A week ago, Labour Minister said the findings of her office did not reveal the practice of racism, abuse or mistreatment at the said restaurant.

The Minister also called for the arrest of Mika Mwambazi for alarming the public with a false report.

Mika Mwambazi is a member of the public who complained against inhuman treatment she witnessed at the premises stated that the workers of the restaurant got shouted at in the presence of clients at will, some of the insulting language used against them included f**k you, rather, rotten egg, idiots etc.

However, Human Rights Commission report at variance with the Minister's statement revealed that management at Horse-Shoe restaurant repeatedly used derogatory language and in certain instances beat workers.

Meanwhile among other organizations, Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) was saddened by remarks from the Labour Minister after calling for the arrest of the whistle blower Mika Mwambazi for allegedly ‘alarming the nation’.
