An inspection of selected registration centres in Mandevu and Matero constituencies yesterday by Minister of Home Affairs Davies Mwila revealed that hundreds of young people are turning up to obtain NRCs.
Mr Mwila is optimistic that the targeted 500,000 young people who have attained the age of 16 will be met by November.
“The response is overwhelming as you have seen for yourself. This is impressive and we are happy as Government,” he said.
Mr Mwila visited four centres: Chipata Day Primary School, Highland Secondary School, Matero Hall and Kasamba Primary School.
And some young people are elated with the exercise.
Miriam Ziba, who turned 16 this year, said she was happy that she would obtain an NRC.
“I have been looking forward to this time and I have come with my mother to get an NRC. I am finishing school this year and it is only prudent that I get a national identity,” Ms Ziba said.
Another youth, who had just obtained an NRC, said he would use it for many things, including looking for a job.
James Mwanza of Matero said he would also get a voters’ card with his newly acquired NRC.
